Trevor Ellis

Age: 26

Sex: male

Date: 9 Aug 2011

Place: Duppas Hill Road, Croydon

Trevor Ellis was shot in the head during riots in London whilst sat in a car on Duppas Hill Road in Croydon on 8 August 2011 at around 9.20pm.

He had earlier been sat in a black Ford Fiesta car parked in Scarbrook Road with his friends when they had a row with a group of about nine looters. There was then a high-speed car chase, but two cars, a Silver Peugeot 308 and a black Vauxhall Astra boxed the black Ford Fiesta car in on Duppas Hill Road and two men got out of the black Vauxhall Astra with a gun and one of them, described as a black man, fired twice into the car hitting Trevor Ellis in the head and leg.

The car chase had started in Scarbrook Road and gone along the A232 flyover and then into Duppas Hill Road.

After the shooting the gunmen fled.

Trevor Ellis was taken to hospital but died the next day, 9 August 2011.

Thirteen people were arrested but no charges were made.

It was said that the murder had been witnessed by three car loads of people but no one said anything. The police said that there had been a wall of silence.

The police said that they believed that the men that shot Trevor Ellis had been involved in looting and that they had robbed at least two other people. They made a request for anyone with video footage of the looting in the area shortly before the shooting to come forward as they believed that the men had been involved in looting before they had encountered Trevor Ellis and his friends.

Trevor Ellis had lived in Brixton Hill and had travelled to Croydon with two friends. His friends were later convicted and jailed for having looted the Cash Converters shop in High Street. They were convicted of burglary and handling stolen goods in 2012. It was noted that there was no evidence however that Trevor Ellis had gone into the store.

The police said that they later found the weapon used to shoot Trevor Ellis in a house in Croydon in June 2012 during an unconnected investigation. It was said to have been a self-loading pistol. A man was then jailed for three years for possession of a firearm.
