Ann Nind was found in her bed at Mulgrave Road, Kensington, unconscious with a handkerchief tied tightly around her neck.
The handkerchief was cut off and a doctor was called but she died later that afternoon.
Her cause of death was given as heart failure due to asphyxia caused by the handkerchief which was said must have been tied with considerable force.
She was the proprietress of a laundry in Mulgrave Road and it was said that there was nothing known to have caused her any worry and no known reason why she would have tied a handkerchief around her own neck. Her neck otherwise had nothing the matter with it.
All the houses along Mulgrave Road have since been demolished.
An open verdict was returned.
