The body of a newly-born child was found in the River Thames at Iffley Pool.
It was wrapped up in a portion of a woman's underclothing which had had a name label or other form of identification removed. It was then enclosed in a cardboard box and tied up with string.
It was said that the child had received a blow to the head although the doctor didn't mention that and said that it had died from suffocation although the cause was unknown.
