The body of a newly-born child was found wrapped up in a form of parcel in the back garden of 29 Anglesea Road in Ipswich.
The person that had lived at 29 Anglesea Road said that he had gone out into his garden on the Monday evening about seven o'clock and that his dog had attracted his attention to a brown paper parcel lying on a wall. He picked it up and took it to a table where he found that it was secured with string and fastened with two safety pins in at the corners. Inside he found the body of the child wrapped up in two cloths.
He said that he did not think he would have noticed the parcel if it had not been for his dog which had found it as soon as he had gone through his gate.
He said that it would have been quite possible for a person to have come in through the driftway from Newson Street and put the parcel on the wall beneath the trees.
It was noted that the parcel was quite dry and that if it had been there on the Sunday night it would have become wet during the rain.
The doctor who examined the child said that its birth had probably taken place within the previous 24 hours.
