Sex: female

Date: 16 Mar 1907

Place: Robertsbridge

The body of a newly-born child was found in a spring in Robertsbridge.

It was found by a gardener at Yew Lodge in Robertsbridge when he went to lock a gate that abutted the main road which was near the spring. He saw a brown paper parcel at the bottom of the spring which was about two feet deep.

He called for the police who opened up the parcel to find the nude body of a female child about three of four days old.

The post-mortem showed that the child's lungs floated although were not fully inflated. The doctor said that he was unable to say if the child had had a separate existence but that his opinion was that the child had died from want of attention at birth.
