Mary Ann McLoughlin

Mary Ann McLoughlin died from a head injury.

She had lately complained of dizziness and after returning home she had her daughter retired to rest at about 9pm the Tuesday evening and on the following morning she was found dead in her bed.

Her post-mortem at the Royal Infirmary found that she had a slight wound on the right side of her scalp and that there was an effusion of blood on her brain. Her heart was also found to have been diseased.

The doctor said that the wound to her head could have been caused by a fall or a blow to the head, however, there was no evidence to state how she got the injury and an open verdict was returned.

The verdict stated that death was due to an effusion of blood on the brain caused by violence, but as to how caused there was not sufficient evidence to show.
