The body of a newly-born child was found under the seat in a third-class waiting-room at Blackpool Central Station.
The post-mortem revealed that the child had died from strangulation.
The child was found by a woman attendant who said that it was wrapped up in brown paper and a heliotrope skirt. she said that whilst she was on duty constantly at the waiting-room she said that she didn't see anyone enter with a parcel.
The Deputy Coroner said that it was one of those cases which occurred very frequently in Blackpool owing to its big floating population and that the woman probably went there on a day trip with the express purpose of planting the child out of the way.
