Florence Webb

Age: 29

Sex: female

Date: 28 Oct 1925

Place: Haddon Hall Street, Old Kent Road, London

Florence Webb died from blood poisoning following an illegal operation.

Florence Webb was a packer.

At her inquest a married man from Alvar Street said that he had told Florence Webb that he was single but denied that he had ever promised to marry her. He also added that he knew nothing of her condition.

When he denied that he had gone to a surgery with her in September the Coroner said 'You are a liar. You have given a false name and address. Try and tell the truth. The girl is dead and nothing will bring her back'. the man then said that he had given a false name to save his family. The Coroner then said 'Yes, and now you are trying to save yourself'.

When the Coroner summed up he said that Florence Webb 'seemed to have been completely bamboozled by this young man, but nothing could be proved against him'.

Haddon Hall Street has since been demolished and redeveloped, but was approximately where Rephidim Street is today.
