Mary Lazenby

Age: 80

Sex: female

Date: 22 May 1999

Place: Bethnal Green, East London

Mary Lazenby was beaten to death at her Bethnal Green flat.

She was living in sheltered accommodation at the time and suffered a broken spine, jaw, ribs and breastbone after being kicked and stamped on.

It was thought that her murderer had posed as a water board official to gain access to her flat.

She was 4ft 8ins tall.

She had lost her right foot during her childhood but was noted for, after having married a merchant seaman in 1941 who later died in the war, having opened the first Indian restaurant in South Shields in the early 1950s and for having a chain of three restaurants by 1958 employing about 30 staff.
