The body of a newly-born child was found in the Recreation Ground in Clarendon Road.
The body was found by a groundsman working for the Portsmouth Corporation as he was walking along the Malvern Road. He saw a brown-paper parcel just inside the railings of the park and thought it looked suspicious and so he took it to the Albert Road Police Station where it was opened up.
