The body of a newly-born female child was found in a hedge bottom at Whingate, Armley by a labourer.
It was wrapped up in a parcel which he broke open and when he saw that it was a child he took it to the police station.
The body had been wrapped up in a journal styled 'The Monitor; or, The New Era' dated 9 January 1903 which was then covered in brown paper. Its mouth had been stuffed with paper which had caused it to suffocate.
