The body of a newly-born child was found in the Driffield Canal on the afternoon of Sunday 16 January 1927.
The child had been choked to death after having a tuft of grass stuffed into its mouth. It had then been thrown into the canal.
It was found by a man that had lived in Brook Street Driffield as he was walking along the canal bank.
The cause of death was given as asphyxiation caused by choking.
The child was described as having been fully developed and thought to have been in the water for three or four days.
A verdict of wilful murder by some person or persons unknown was returned.
