The body of a 7-14 day old child was found behind some houses on Ashdell Road in Summerfield.

It was found wrapped up in newspaper lying under a tree near a wall.

The police surgeon said that the child had been subjected to the prolonged action of fire and was charred and blackened and had its right arm missing. It was thought that the body had been burnt whilst it was still fresh.

He said that he could not say if the child had been burnt alive or dead.
