The body of a newly-born child was found at the bank of the new dam on Northumberland Road wrapped up in a parcel.

It was wrapped up loosely in brown paper.

The doctor said that he did not think that the child had lived for more than 24 hours and had been dead for two to three days when found.

Its tongue had been forced backwards and had been torn.
