Place: Boughton Crossing, Northampton

The body of a newly-born child was found in a pond at Boughton Crossing by two youth's.

The child was well nourished and had not been in the water for more than a month.

The doctor said that it had had a separate existence and that death was due to suffocation caused by a handkerchief thrust down its throat.

The foreman of the Coroner's jury said that he could understand the difficulties that the police were having in trying to trace the mother of the child because the pond was close to a largely used road.
