Jessie Sharp

Age: 17

Sex: female

Date: 10 May 1927

Place: Hebden Bridge, Upper Calder Valley, West Yorkshire

Jessie Sharp fell from a train travelling between Blackpool and Huddersfield.

She had lived at Almondbury in Huddersfield where she was employed as a cotton winder.

Her mother said that she had left home on the Friday for work and then later got a letter from her from Blackpool stating that she dared not come back as she had taken money required for rent. Her mother said that Jessie Sharp was a jolly happy girl and had not appeared depressed or worried.

Railway officials said that then the train arrived at Hebden Bridge a carriage door was open and the compartment was empty although there was a hat, gloves, a book and a ticket from Blackpool to Huddersfield on a seat. The communication cord had also been pulled.

Jessie Sharp was later found on the line and taken to the Halifax Infirmary where she died the following morning.

In her pocket they found an empty envelope bearing her name and address.

An open verdict was returned.
