Martin Luther Colton was found cut in two on the London Midland and Scottish railway line near Heeley Station.
He was last seen leaving his home on the Wednesday evening, 2 March 1927, saying he was going to the shops and would only be a few minutes.
He was later found dead on the London Midland and Scottish line at Heeley on Thursday 3 March 1927.
He had lived in 2/2 Swinton Street, Sheffield and had been employed by the London and North-Eastern Railway Company. It was noted that he had not worked for the LMS Company and had had no right on their line.
A representative of the London Midland and Scottish Railway Company said that from the time of Martin Colton's disappearance to the time that he was found that at least twenty trains had passed over the rails where his body was found.
His wife said that Martin Colton had been quite happy and in good health. It was said that during the war that he had been a prisoner in Germany but that that had had no effect on him.
An open verdict was returned.
