James Albert Fitzsimmons was found dead on a railway line.
His head was very badly injured and it was believed that he had been run over by the down train that had left Millbay at 10.20pm.
He had been a coal dealer and had lived on Kinross Avenue in Plymouth. He had been married and had had five children.
