James Albert Fitzsimmons was found dead on a railway line.
His head was very badly injured and it was believed that he had been run over by the down train that had left Millbay at 10.20pm.
He was a coal dealer and had lived on Kinross Avenue in Plymouth. He had been married and had had five children.
