Francis Davies was found in Birkenhead Dock with a 15lb. weight in a straw bag tied around his neck.
He had been missing for a week but he looked like he had been in the water for three weeks.
The doctor who examined his body said that he had never known a case where so much decomposition had taken place in five days.
An open verdict was returned.
Francis Davies had been a jobbing gardener from New Brighton.
