A child aged about 5 months was found dead amongst some bracken on Danbury Common.
The body was found by a party of motorists.
A policeman said that the child’s face was covered with a linen napkin folded in a triangular shape and drawn tightly around its head. He said that around the child’s neck there was a silk handkerchief tightly knotted under the chin. He said that the linen cloth was so tight that it had pressed the nose into the face,
A doctor said that death was due to strangulation and that he thought that the body had been dead for about a week. He said that there was also cotton wool packed tightly in its mouth.
The police made requests for information from any person or person who had knowledge of any missing male children aged between three and five months.
A verdict of wilful murder against some person or persons unknown was returned.
