Age: 0

Sex: male

Date: 21 Aug 1928

Place: Halcyon Road, Newton Abbot

The body of a newly-born child was found with its throat cut at a house.

The Coroner said that the murder could have only been committed by one of two people, the mother or the 17-year-old daughter but there is no trace of any conviction.

The doctor said that the child's head was half severed from it's body. He said that he searched and found a razor in a drawer of the house but it gave no evidence of having been recently used.

The mother of the daughter said that she slept with her daughter but said that she didn't know that she was expecting a child and said that she didn't injure the child and didn't know who had.

The daughter said that she gave birth to the child at breakfast time when her mother was in another room and didn't tell her that it had been born. She also said that she didn't know that she was going to become a mother. When asked by the Coroner she said that she did not remember whether she inflicted any injuries on the baby.

A verdict of murder by some person or persons unknown was returned.
