Joseph Buckingham

Age: 59

Sex: male

Date: 24 Jan 1929

Place: Canonbury Cottages, Enfield

Joseph Buckingham was found at the bottom of a staircase.

The Coroner noted that Joseph Buckingham's sister hadn't appeared at the inquest saying that he didn't know why. He said that when he interviewed her she had made her statements rationally but that every now and then she would burst out swearing about her dead brother. The Coroner said that she had told him that she had found him at the bottom of the stairs about midnight on 24 January 1929.

A neighbour said that she had heard shouting and the noise of someone carrying on at Joseph Buckingham's house about midnight. she said that she went to his house the next morning and found out that Joseph Buckingham was injured and called a doctor.

When the neighbour answered a Coroner's question she said 'I don't think that Buckingham's sister is always answerable for her statements. Between making her statements she swears and raves. I don't think her evidence would be much good, even if she were present'.

The medical evidence showed that Joseph Buckingham had died from a fracture to the base of the skull.

The Coroner said that there was no evidence to show how he had come to fall down the stairs and an open verdict was returned.

He was a labourer.
