Baby

Age: 0

Sex: male

Date: 20 Jan 1928

Place: River Exe, Exeter

The body of a newly-born-child was found floating in the River Exe.

The cause of death was given as strangulation. It had a cord tied tightly around its neck. There was also a piece of garment tied around its neck with a knot with another piece in half a knot.

A doctor said that he thought that the child had breathed after birth and had then been strangled shortly after. He said that there were no signs of drowning.

He said that he thought that the child have been dead for about a month but noted that he would not have expected the brown paper to have lasted that long and so stated that he thought that it had been dead for some time before it was disposed of.

The package was seen floating down the river by a man who thought that it contained the body of a baby and so he recovered it.
