Unsolved Murders

Mary Elizabeth Baker

Age: 30

Sex: female

Date: 25 May 1917

Place: 21 Hans Place, Chelsea, London

Mary Elizabeth Baker was found dead in her residence after an attack of haemorrhage.

She was the wife of a member of the stock exchange and a Baronet's daughter.

A doctor that had attended to her shortly before her death said that she made rambling statements to him, during which she confessed that she had operated on herself.

A Home Office analyst said that he failed to find any trace of poison, whilst the pathologist gave her cause of death as heart failure consequent on the operation.

An open verdict was returned.
