William Shaw

Age: 68

Sex: male

Date: 15 Mar 1917

Place: Midland Railway, Derby

William Shaw died from concussion of the brain.

He was seen acting in a strange manner at about 6.30am on the Thursday by a man that he lodged with in the street.

A doctor was later called and William Shaw was taken to the infirmary where he died on Thursday 15 March 1917.

When William Shaw had arrived at the millwrights' shop where he worked he was seen to have a bruised eye and to have dust and dirt on his overcoat. He denied that he had fallen.

He was also seen to be adding brass shavings in with his tobacco and putting it in his pipe and smoking it.

At his inquest the Coroner suggested that his death might have been due to cerebral haemorrhage, but the doctor said that that was wrong.

An open verdict was returned.

William Shaw had lodged at 85 Douglas Street.
