Place: Hendon Beach

The body of a newly-born child was found on Hendon Beach.

The body was found by a workman that had been working on the sea banks. He said that it was wrapped up in a parcel under the staircase leading to the beach. He said that he had been working in the area for about a week. He said that he had seen a number of people in the area that morning but had paid no particular attention to them adding that there were lots of people knocking about on the beach everyday. He said that he had not noticed anyone carrying a parcel.

The parcel was not wet.

The post-mortem stated that the child had died from haemorrhage following birth and had died about 24-48 hours before he had examined it. It stated that the child had breathed. There were no marks of violence on it.

An open verdict was returned.
