Hilda Howard

Age: 15

Sex: female

Date: 15 Apr 1914

Place: Rochdale Canal, Mills Hill

Hilda Howard was found dead in the Rochdale Canal at Mills Hill.

The post-mortem stated that she had not drowned and had probably died from shock.

She had a cut under her right eye that was caused before she died, but also had numerous other injuries that were thought to have been caused after she died, possibly by a boats propeller including a broken leg, a fractured spine and all her ribs were broken.

Hilda Howard was a little tenter at a cotton mill.

She was last seen alive at about 1.20pm on 1 April 1914.

Her mother said that there was nothing wrong with her although she was strange and stupid at times.

An open verdict was returned.
