Alice Lucy Drummond died after falling off of a ferry.
She had been with a one-legged man on the ferry and they were drunk. The man said that they were due to get married in a fortnights time at Gretna Green. They had lived together.
The Coroner commented on the unsatisfactory nature of the man's evidence and returned an open verdict of 'Found drowned'. He said that there was not sufficient evidence to show whether she had jumped over or had been forced over the ferry side.
Her body was found on the Saturday near the South Pier at South Shields. She had fallen off of the ferry on the Friday night near the North Shields landing.
