John Edgar Davidson died after being pushed down a stair.

A woman was tried for his culpable homicide but a verdict was not proven was returned.

She was said to have struck him on the head with a tin and a jug, and pushed him down a stair at 3 Charles Street, Greenock on 9 November 1907.

A woman that also lived in the same house said that on the Saturday night she entered the house and found the woman and 3 Charles Street, Greenock there, and that she heard the woman say, 'If you don't get out of here, I'll cut and carve you'.

She said that the woman later followed John Davidson to the lobby and hit him on the head with a jug and a pint can and that John Davidson was next either pushed or fell down the stair, after which the woman followed him down and repeated her threat to cut and carve him.

The woman said that she later saw John Davidson lying in a pool of blood at the foot of the stair at the back court after which he was taken to the infirmary where he died.

However, the jury acquitted the woman of manslaughter, but guilty of assault and she was sentenced to a months' imprisonment.
