Sandie Ann Hardman

Age: 45

Sex: female

Date: 18 Oct 2013

Place: Sorrel Drive, Newport

Sandie Hardman was found injured at her flat on 17 October 2013 and was taken to hospital where she died later in the early hours of 18 October 2013.

She had numerous bruises on her typical of an assault.

The police were called to her flat on the Thursday night after receiving reports of a disturbance, after which she was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital where she died in the early hours of the following morning. Paramedics had carried out CPR on her.

The pathologist said that the bruising on her body was typical of an assault or of having warded off an assault and that her injuries probably occurred a few hours before she died. He said that she had over 44 injuries on her body, including her forearms, shoulder blades and face. He added that there was also a ligature mark across her neck. The inquest heard that the mark across her neck could not be accounted for by the medical treatment that she had received after being found and that it could not be ruled out that it had not played a part in her death.

A man and a woman were arrested soon after but not charged after the CPS said that there was no case to answer.

Sandie Hardman was said to have a history of alcohol dependency and to have had a high level of alcohol in her system when she died.

An open verdict was returned.

Sandie Hardman was from Limerick in Ireland.
