David Whitehead

Age: 49

Sex: male

Date: 7 Nov 2012

Place: Queensmead Recreation Ground, Bromley, South London

David Whitehead died from a fractured skull.

It was thought that he had been assaulted in Queensmead Recreation Ground, Bromley, around 30 October 2012. He was then taken to Kings College Hospital, in Camberwell where he later died eight days later.

He was found at a friend's house, thought to have been in Tweedy Road, on 30 October 2012 bleeding and taken to King's College hospital where his injuries were treated after which he discharged himself, but he was readmitted on Saturday 3 November 2012 after collapsing on a bus and died there on 7 November 2012.

Following his death a murder investigation was opened.

Five people were arrested in connection with his murder but later released.

They were:

  1. 37 year old man.
  2. 41 year old man.
  3. 43 year old man.
  4. 45 year old man.
  5. 30 year old woman.

It was heard that the woman had told the police that she had seen the other four men assault David Whitehead at the Queensmead Recreation Ground.

However, his postmortem was inconclusive and his case was closed due to insufficient evidence, it being noted that the witnesses themselves were unreliable resulting in there being no clear evidence. The police said, 'It was difficult to speak to other witnesses, who were Mr Whitehead's friends at the park, because they were often under the influence of alcohol'.

His inquest returned a narrative verdict that he died from head injuries resulting from a traumatic injury that was complicated by alcohol cirrhosis in the liver.

David Whitehead had been homeless and suffered from an alcohol dependency.
