Robert Gibbons

Age: 77

Sex: male

Date: 15 Jan 1932

Place: Burghfield, Reading

Robert Gibbons was found dead in a ditch.

He had been shot in the head. His gun was found 15 yards away.

He was found in a ditch near the Three Firs public house in Burghfield of which he had been the licensee for forty years.

The coroner said that foul play was not suspected.

It was heard that Robert Gibbons had gone out to shoot rabbits and when he didn't return a search party went out and he was found in the ditch in a pool of blood.

He had a severe gunshot wound and death was thought to have been almost instantaneous. The coroner said that it seemed remarkable that a man so badly wounded could have walked or stumbled fifteen yards without leaving a blood trail.

It was said that he had no financial worries and had never threatened to commit suicide.

Robert Gibbons was a farmer at Little New Farm in Sulhamstead near Reading.
