Fred Parkes was found drowned in the Way Navigation at Byfleet on 11 November 1931.
When he was found he was well dressed.
His daughter said that she last saw him when he left home on 13 October 1931 to go to London.
He had been a retired boilermaker and had lived in Holly Road in Blackpool, Lancashire.
He had previously worked in India for 16 years and was said not to have been in financial difficulties but was looking for something to do.
No cheques were drawn from his bank account since he had left home.
The Coroner said that although many features of the case were unusual, there was no evidence of foul play and an open verdict was returned.
