Arthur Otter

Age: 57

Sex: male

Date: 20 Apr 1931

Place: Chesterfield Road, Meadow Head

Arthur Otter was found unconscious in the road.

Arthur Otter was a bricklayer and had lived at 69 Olivet Road in Woodseats, Sheffield.

He was found lying in the street unconscious on the Chesterfield Road, near the Norton Woodseats Post Office at the top of Meadow Head on 19 April 1931 and died the following day at the Sheffield Royal Hospital

The medical evidence stated that his death was due to multiple injuries, probably caused by a motor vehicle. However, the police said that despite extensive enquiries they were not able to find any evidence as to how he had come by his injuries.

His wife had gone over to Dronfield to visit Arthur Otter's aged mother and had arranged to meet him there. She was a little late in arriving and as a result she assumed that Arthur Otter had gone home. However, when she got home she found a policeman waiting for her to tell her that Arthur Otter had been found injured and taken to the hospital.

It was heard that Arthur Otter had called at the Norton Hotel on the night and had left at about 9.30pm. He was found unconscious in the road a little later a few yards from the Meadow Head tram terminus.

He was found by two men that had noticed a dark object lying in the road and who had then stopped a passing motorist and informed the police.
