Craig Mirfield

Age: 34

Sex: male

Date: 15 Mar 2000

Place: Oakwood Lane, Gipton, Leeds

Craig Mirfield was shot in his car near his home.

He was trying to escape his killer at the time. He was shot once in the chest or head.

He had been parking his car up near a telephone kiosk at the time near his home on Oakwood Lane and it was thought that when he had seen his killer he had tried to reverse away at speed towards a roundabout at which point he was shot. He had been shot at point blank range.

He was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest or head but later died.

It was thought that his murder was connected to a number of other shootings in the area at the time. Four days before he was shot, 11 March, a doorman was shot in Moortown in a drive-by-shooting. Then, two days after Craig Mirfield was shot, 17 March, a man was shot in Chapeltown and then ten days later on 27 March another man was shot in Seacroft.

A man was tried for his murder but the case against him was dropped after the prosecution offered no evidence against him after it was found that two principle witnesses could not be relied on. The first was a woman who the court determined could not be relied upon and the second was a person that was said to have seen the man on trial at the scene of the crime and who had picked him out in an identification parade but whom the police later stated that they realised could also not be relied on.

Craig Mirfield was a car dealer.
