Zennen Blackburn was shot three times in the chest.
He had been walking along Walderton Avenue with a friend when a car pulled up at about 4.25pm on 23 May 2002 and someone started shooting at them. They ran off into Moorsholme Avenue where the gunman, who had chased them, shot Zennen Blackburn dead.
It was thought that he had earlier had a fight with a criminal who had later had a person that owed him a drugs debt shoot him.
It was also thought that the shooting might have been a case of mistaken identity.
Zennen Blackburn was an amateur boxer and also ran a Jamaican takeaway on Yorkshire Street in Oldham and also sold used cars. It was noted that he had also served three years in prison when he was 17 years old after being caught smuggling cannabis from Amsterdam into the UK.
He had two daughters.
