Kanwal Bernice William

Age: 50

Sex: female

Date: 9 Apr 2017

Place: Lutton, Lincolnshire

Kanwal Bernice William was found dead in a cupboard in a storage room at her house on 9 April 2017.

An open verdict was returned at her inquest with the Coroner saying that her death could have been natural, manslaughter or murder.

Her husband hung himself at their family house and it was thought that he was the main suspect regarding her death. Kanwal William's body was found two days after the police found her husband’s body in their house.

She was identified by her DNA.

The police said that if her husband had survived that they would have charged him with her murder, stating that the 'threshold for a criminal charge would have been met'. They added, 'The exact charge cannot be ascertained. It could have been anything from preventing the lawful burial of a body through to manslaughter or murder'.

At her inquest her son said that he thought that his father had killed Kanwal William. He said that they had had arguments in which his father had been accused of having an affair and that they had argued over the mortgage repayments on their £400,000 house and that Kanwal William was afraid of going bankrupt and had been considering leaving her husband.

The Coroner addressed the son saying, 'Something obviously happened between mother and father. She is the truly unfortunate victim in this. If the father had survived he would have been arrested and charged. I cannot look at the medical evidence for help. The only conclusion I believe I can come to in relation to your mother is an open verdict. We will never really know how she came to her death'.

Kanwal William had been a teacher and was the daughter of a former Archbishop in Pakistan.
