Percy Howard Knight

Age: 29

Sex: male

Date: 27 Apr 1911

Place: Daily Mail Offices, Leicester

Percy Howard Knight died from cyanide of potassium poisoning.

He was a journalist and was due to be married in the afternoon he died. He was found dead at the office of the Daily Mail three hours before he was due to get married.

It was said that Percy Knight's mother disliked his fiancee and as a consequence had not visited their home recently.

He had been keeping company with his fiancee for about 10 years.

His mother admitted that she disapproved of his choice but said that she had no idea that a wedding had been fixed.

However, his fiancee said that Percy Knight's family had been informed of the wedding by a postcard. She said that Percy Knight said, 'I am old enough, and in a position to marry you, and I am going to marry you'. She said that Percy Knight had seemed bright and cheerful the day before.

It was said that Percy Knight had bought some cyanide of potassium the day before, which was thought to have been for photographic purposes.

The jury found that his death had been caused by poison but that there was no evidence to show how it had been administered.

However, the jury added that there was a strong feeling amongst them that the mother and brothers of Percy Knight had not told all they knew.
