The body of a newly-born female child was found in Washwood Heath Road.
It was found decapitated in a public lavatory on the Saturday night.
The child's remains also bore signs of scorching which was thought had been done before the decapitation.
The police said that they were unable to determine the child's identity.
A professor that carried out the post-mortem said that the child had definitely been born alive. He said that death was due to suffocation which might have been caused by a constriction of the throat with a finger and thumb.
