Jane Turner Shipton died from an illegal operation.

She died in Fulham Hospital from general peritonitis. The pathologist that carried out her post-mortem said that she had four internal injuries that were caused by some instrument.

She was married to a chauffeur, but he said that they had not lived together since February 1931. He said that they had separated for domestic reasons adding that Jane Shipton had said that she was tired of a quiet life. He said that she had then gone into service.

She had taken a room at a house in Fulham. At the inquest, the landlady, the wife of a tramcar driver, was cautioned by the coroner.

At the inquest, the jury returned a verdict of murder against some person or persons unknown.
