Edith Groom died from an illegal operation.
She was a single woman and had been employed as a cook at a public house in Hammersmith Road and lived in Kilmington Road in Barnes.
She was engaged to a man from Shepherds Bush and was due to be married at Christmas 1932.
She was taken to the West London Hospital where she died.
The pathologist said that her death was due to septicaemia following an abortion.
An open verdict was returned. The coroner said that there was every reason to think that she had lost her life from an abortion brought about either by herself or possibly by somebody else. He also said that occasionally such cases were due to natural rather than artificial causes and that doubts left by the evidence would be reflected in the verdict.
