Hilda Thomas

Age: 19

Sex: female

Date: 16 Aug 1932

Place: Brymbo Pool, Brymbo, Wrexham

Hilda Thomas was found drowned in Brymbo Pool.

She had been missing from her home in the Roller's Arms, Southsea, near Wrexham since Friday 12 August 1932, and was later found in Brymbo Pool about a mile away on 16 August 1932.

Her body was found by some children who were playing near the pool.

The Coroner said that there was not sufficient evidence to show how she had got in the water.

Her mother said that she had become upset after some flirtation at the seaside. The mother said that six-weeks earlier she had found Hilda Thomas crying in her bedroom and that when she had asked her what the matter was she had told her that she had been to Rhyl recently with a friend where they had met two men. The mother said that Hilda Thomas told her that one of the men had been rude to her and that she had told her fiance about it and that he had told her not to do it again.

It was heard that Hilda Thomas and her fiance were on affectionate terms but that she could not get the Rhyl incident off her mind.

A man from High Street in Pentre, Broughton, said that he had met Hilda Thomas on the sands at Rhyl but denied being rude to her. He said, 'We just rolled each other on the sands and might have turned somersaults, but we were in the public view always'.

Her friend said that they sat as couples on each side of the sandhills within hearing of each other, but out of sight, and said that she heard no screams, and nor did she hear Hilda Thomas complain to her of rudeness.

The search for her after she had gone missing had involved hundreds of civilians and involved an intensive search of local pits, woods and mountains.
