William Wildsmith Griffin

Age: 71

Sex: female

Date: 15 Feb 1933

Place: Upper Hurst Farm, Dilwyn

William Wildsmith Griffin was found shot in his orchard.

Both barrels of his shotgun had been discharged. The inquest stated that both barrels of the gun would have had to have been fired simultaneously to account for the condition of things as found.

The Coroner said that he did not pretend to be an expert in such matters but had come to the conclusion that the supposition that William Griffin might have discharged the gun with the intent to commit suicide was contrary to the established fact that it would have been extremely difficult for him to have discharged both barrel simultaneously.

It was also stated that the ground was very soft and slippery, but that there was not sufficient evidence to decide definitely that his death was accidental.

An open verdict was returned.

William Wildsmith had worked at the farm for which his 80-year old brother was the tenant.
