James Finch

James Finch was found dead near the Watergrove Waterworks on Saturday 23 July 1932.

He was also known as Wee Scottie.

He was found dead on a road with a deep wound over an eye. However, his cause of death was stated to have been due to valvular disease of the heart.

He was known as Wee Scottie but identified as James Finch, who up until that time was thought to have died in the war.

He had been employed as a timberman at the Watergrove Waterworks.

In his kitbag at his lodgings, the police found a birth certificate bearing the name James Finch that gave his age as 61, but they could not trace any relatives. After the news was reported in the newspapers his brother contacted the Rochdale police to say that Wee Scottie was his brother, James Finch.

The Coroner closed the inquest into his death by recording a verdict of death from natural causes.
