Herbert Wragg was found unconscious in Prestwich Park with head injuries.
He was taken to the Salford Royal Hospital where he died three days later from haemorrhage of the brain.
A post-mortem revealed that he had a bruise on his forehead which might have been caused by a blow or a fall.
His diamond tie pin was missing but he still had his two gold watches and 20s in money in his possession when he was found.
He was a jeweller from Piccadilly in Manchester.
