Jade Steven Alleyne

Jade Steven Alleyne was shot at the Litten Tree pub in Lymington Avenue, Wood Green on the night of 19 April 2002.

There had been more than 300 people at the pub at the time which was holding a hip-hop dance night. Just before midnight a scuffle started and a fight broke out between Jade Alleyne and a group of men and it was said that after the altercation became more heated that Jade Alleyne was shot.

When the emergency services arrived they found Jade Alleyne sprawled out on the dance floor suffering from gunshot wounds. He was then taken to North Middlesex Hospital but he died at about 7.20am on 20 April 2002.

His post mortem gave his cause of death as being a gunshot to the neck.

The police said that they were particularly keen to trace a woman that was seen trying to revive him after he was shot.

They said that they were also trying to trace a number of vehicles that were seen speeding away after the murder.

The gun used to kill him was thought to have possibly been later used in the murder of Pauline Peart in 2003.

Jade Alleyne had lived in Comber Close, Cricklewood.

Following the murder discussions were held between the Haringey police officials and the SFI Group plc that owned the Litten Tree chain of pubs and it was agreed that a number of changes would be made to overhaul aspects of the way the pub was run. Developments that were agreed included changing the DJ and changing from hip-hop music to soft pop, appointing a new manager, renaming the pub the 'Wood Green Tavern', employing four door supervisors who would be equipped with metal detectors to find firearms, implementing a no drugs policy and pledging to fully cooperate with the Haringey Council and police anti-violence agreement strategy.

The police said that a number of individuals had been charged with offences relating to the murder. They included:

19-year-old youth from Jack Bennett Way, Wood Green who was charged with possession of firearms and ammunition.

19-year-old youth from Lockhurst Street, Clapton who was charged with possession of firearms and ammunition.

18-year-old youth from Val McKenzie Avenue, Highbury who was charged with firearms offences.

The Litten Tree was later renamed the Wood Green Tavern but has since been turned into a supermarket.
