Age: 28

Sex: male

Date: 18 Oct 2016

Place: Hadfield Way, Kingshurst, Birmingham

Giovanni Lewis was stabbed 22 times and left outside the A&E department at Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham the evening of 18 October 2016 at about 7.45pm.

It was thought that he had been stabbed outside a house in Hadfield Way, Kingshurst, after a prolonged fight. He had been stabbed in the right side of his heart.

A man was tried for his murder but acquitted in October 2018.

The man had been wanted in connection with Giovanni Lewis's murder and had handed himself in to the police and denied murder and other charges. At his trial he was found not guilty of murder, attempted murder, wounding with intent and two firearms charges.

Giovanni Lewis had lived in School Acre Road, Shard End and had travelled to Hadfield Way on the day of his murder.

The police said, 'As he approached the address someone came out and a large fight took place between the two of them. It was a prolonged fight with kicks and punches and the two of them ran around the streets. The fight ended and the other man ran away. Mr Lewis returned to the car he had arrived in and collapsed next to it'.

After collapsing, Giovanni Lewis was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead at 10.44pm.

CCTV footage was found of the incident which the police said showed that his attacker had 'intended to cause serious harm'.

His post mortem showed that his fatal wound would have required moderate to severe force and that he had another injury to his ribs that would have required force.

The coroner said that his wounds could not have been accidental and then said, 'I record that he died at 20.44 hours on October 18 at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital as a result of deliberate and sustained injuries in a knife attack outside no 36 Hadfield Way' and that he had been unlawfully killed.

He had been a barman and was born in Jamaica.
