David Hallsworth

David Hallsworth died from a head injury.

He was a colliery labourer and had lived in Edlington Street in Denaby Main with his married daughter. She said that he left home on the Saturday evening at 7.30pm without saying where he was going.

A while later, between 10.30pm and 10.45pm, a woman that lived nearby called on the daughter to tell her that David Hallsworth was lying at her house unconscious. She then went to see him and then had him removed to their house and then to the hospital where he later died.

The woman, that had lived on Thornhill Street in Denaby, said that David Hallsworth was an old acquaintance of hers and had been in the habit of paying occasional visits. She said that she had gone out on the Saturday evening shortly after 9pm and that when she returned at 9.40pm she found David Hallsworth lying on her kitchen floor and said that when she attempted to rouse him she found that his head was in a pool of blood. She said that when she called to him and got no answer, she went off to summon his daughter.

The doctor that carried out his post-mortem stated that his death was due to a fracture of the skull and said that the injury might have resulted from a fall, but that it might also have been inflicted by a blunt instrument.

An open verdict was returned.
