Jonathan McMurray was attacked on his way home from a pub on the night of 17 July 2002.
He had been out at the JD Wetherspoon's pub in High Road, Wood Green and had left at closing time with some friends.
As they went home through Gladstone Avenue they were confronted by another group of people and there was a fight during which Jonathan McMurray was stabbed at the junction with Pelham Road.
It was said that Jonathan McMurray had left the pub with two friends and that they had initially got into a row with two other men but that both groups were soon joined by more friends until there were between 10 and 15 people in total. There was then a short pursuit and a fight during which Jonathan McMurray was stabbed.
It was noted that all the people involved in the fight had been black and were aged in their teens or early 20s.
An ambulance and the police were called at 11.40pm and Jonathan McMurray was taken to North Middlesex Hospital where he died a few hours later at 1.30am.
His cause of death was given as a single stab wound.
The police said that they thought that about 20 people witnessed the fight but said that not all of them came forward.
Eight people were arrested in relation to his murder but no one was charged.
However, it was heard that everyone that was interviewed replied to questions with no comment.
There was also some CCTV evidence, however, the police said that there was not enough evidence to charge anyone.
On the night he died he had been celebrating signing a music deal.
