William Scott

Age: 69

Sex: male

Date: 10 Feb 1915

Place: Carlisle Street, Hulme

William Scott was found dead at the bottom of some stairs.

He had lodged with a landlady in Carlisle Street, Hulme, on and off for three years. The landlady was later arrested in connection with his death with it being said that she had pushed him down in the yard or off the step and caused him to strike his head on the ground.

It was heard that on the Saturday night he had decided to remove to lodgings in Ellesmere Square in Hulme and had engaged two men with a handcart to move his belongings.

He had first gone to the front door, but the landlady had told him to go to the back door. One of the removal men said that when William Scott asked for his box at the back door the landlady refused and told him that he could have it on the Monday. It was said then that the landlady had tried to shove William Scott out of the yard and in doing so knocked him over. After, William Scott had asked one of the removal men to go for the police.

An open verdict was returned.
